2019 Champoux

This wine is crafted to highlight the Merlot and Cab Franc from Champoux Vineyard that tend to get overlooked in comparison to the Cabernet Sauvignons. This wine has the same quality and complexity as Sorella in a package that showcases that great wines in WA can be Merlot dominant. Andrew Will is a co-owner of the vineyard with Quilceda Creek, Powers, and Woodward Canyon.

The 2019 Vintage was a relatively even growing season which started slightly later than normal. The summer months were marginally cooler than the past few vintages which carried on into early fall.  One of the markers for the vintage will be the consecutive cold snaps in October, forcing us to make quick picking decisions to avoid frost damage. In the end we did not see any frost damage or issues with our fruit and ended up with a truly great vintage!

Rich and round, the 2019 Champoux Vineyard begins with blackberry skin, dusty red plum and cardamom madeleines with a dusty essence to the nose. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a firm tannic backbone and succulent acidity with flavors of plum preserves and black cherry across the mid-palate. The delightfully layered and complex wine ends with an oaky, vanilla-tinged, lingering and persistent finish. Set to be released in 2024, this is a stunning wine that will age for two decades or more and will reward those who cellar. – Wine Advocate

A beautiful bouquet of red and black currants, chocolate, cedary spice, and dried herbs gives way to a medium to full-bodied, rich, concentrated yet flawlessly balanced 2018. With ripe, velvety tannins, a round, layered texture, and a great finish, it can be enjoyed any time over the coming 15 years. – Jebdunnuck.om
