2018 Champoux Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2018 Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is the combination of depth, and elegance. This wine shows off all of the dark fruit and minerality of a classic Champoux Cab and takes advantage of a very good vintage. Expect this wine to drink way above its retail pricing and have the ageing potential for 10-20 years2018 was another warm vintage that cycled through cool and warm months at the start of the growing season. April was cool, delaying bud break slightly. Then May was one of the warmest on record, advancing bloom. This was followed by a cooler-than-average June. Bloom was notably fast and even, contributing to a larger crop size that required extensive thinning. July and August temperatures were quite warm, so much so that heading into veraison, 2018 was shaping up to be among the warmest vintages on record – and it still was based on Growing Degree Days. However, temperatures cooled considerably in September, creating ideal conditions for ripening.

An instant success, the 2018 Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is complex, layered and expressive with notions of ripe black cherry skin, dark plum, dusty black raspberry, hints of redcurrants, crème de cassis, subtle red flowers and hints of brown baking spices. Medium-bodied, the Cabernet compresses on the palate to show its complexity with its tighter frame, succulent acids and fine-grained tannins. Showcasing focus and precision, there is no lack of complexity as the wine concludes with a delightful and lingering finish. – Wine Advocate

Has a juicy, youthful vibe that carries plenty of mulberry and bright cherry fruits as well as notes of leafy tobacco, cedar, and earth. Medium-bodied and balanced, with bright acidity and a clean finish, it’s another beautifully balanced, elegant wine in the lineup. It should have 10-15 years of longevity. – Jebdunnuck.com
